Miami Waterway Transit & Distance Matrix
Most Miami inshore waterways enforce strict Idle Speed / No Wake (4–6 knots) zones. A charter cannot travel at 25 knots through residential channels. Reviewing real transit times ensures you don't burn a 4-hour rental just staring at the helm.
| Departure Marina | Destination Route | Distance | Idle Transit Time | 4-Hour Feasibility | Best Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miami Beach Marina | Star Island & Monument Island Zero bridge delays; immediate open water departure via Government Cut. | 1.5 NM | 15–20 mins | Ideal (Full experience) | 4 Hours |
| Miami Beach Marina | Haulover Sandbar Runs north along ICW; subject to Venetian bridge schedule and strict no-wake limits. | 9.8 NM | 55–70 mins | Tight (~1.5–2 hrs at anchor) | 6 Hours |
| Miami Beach Marina | Nixon Sandbar (Key Biscayne) Smooth run south across open Biscayne Bay; protected from ocean swells. | 6.2 NM | 40–50 mins | Yes (~2.5 hrs at anchor) | 4 or 6 Hours |
| Haulover Park Marina | Haulover Sandbar The fastest sandbar access in South Florida; zero long-distance transit burn. | 0.8 NM | 8–10 mins | Maximum (~3.5 hrs at anchor) | 4 Hours |
| Bayshore Landing (Coconut Grove) | Nixon Sandbar & Stiltsville Calm southern waters; ideal for families, sailing catamarans, and paddleboarding. | 4.2 NM | 25–30 mins | Ideal (~3 hrs at anchor) | 4 Hours |
| Bayshore Landing (Coconut Grove) | Haulover Sandbar Requires navigating the entire bay. Book 8 hours or switch pickup to Haulover. | 15.0 NM | 100–120 mins | Not feasible (Burns 4 hrs in transit) | 8 Hours |
| Venetian Marina (Downtown) | Brickell Skyline & Miami River Prime front-row views of illuminated Brickell towers and downtown bridges. | 1.2 NM | 10–15 mins | Ideal (Sunset & Cocktails) | 4 Hours |
Bridge Clearances & Air Draft Limits
Biscayne Bay is crossed by multiple causeways. Understanding vertical clearances prevents costly navigation surprises.
Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195)
Sailing catamarans with tall masts and large tri-deck motor yachts (>54 ft air draft) cannot pass underneath inside the bay. They must route outside via Government Cut into the Atlantic and re-enter at Haulover Inlet.
Venetian Causeway Bascule Bridge
Motor yachts with flybridges or radar arches must time their run for scheduled openings during transit between Downtown/South Beach and North Miami/Haulover.
Brickell Avenue Bridge (Miami River)
Closed to marine openings during peak weekday vehicle commuting hours. Plan Miami River restaurant arrivals (e.g. Kiki on the River, Zuma) outside rush windows.
Curated Miami Route Previews
YATR route outlines show where a charter can go. You choose the boat; your licensed captain executes the route.
Haulover Sandbar & Bal Harbour
Direct northern route to South Florida's premier weekend swimming and raft-up sandbar.
Downtown Miami & Brickell Skyline
Scenic protected inshore route cruising the illuminated city waterfront and Miami River.
Key Biscayne, Cape Florida & Stiltsville
